For the next six weekends, the Virginia Department of Transportation will implement major closures of the general purpose lanes of I-395 in Virginia between the Springfield Interchange and the Washington, D.C., line. The closures are part of coordinated bridge work related to both the 395 Express Lanes project and rehabilitation of the Four Mile Run bridge.

This weekend’s initial closure will be in effect from 10 p.m. on Friday, July 20, through the afternoon of Sunday, July 22.

During this weekend’s work:

At least two southbound general purpose lanes on I-395 will remain open during the day, but travel may be reduced to one lane southbound overnight.
On northbound I-395, a single left-lane closure will be in place to allow crews to access work areas.
HOV lanes will remain open southbound for through traffic.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes for through traffic, including southbound HOV lanes. Those who must travel the corridor should plan for extra travel time, obey all signage and otherwise exercise caution.

The 395 Express Lanes, a project of the Virginia Department of Transportation and Transurban, are expected to open to traffic in late 2019. The lanes will extend the current lanes eight miles north to the D.C. line. For more information, visit
