Holiday Closings: July 4, 2018

Arlington County Government offices, courts, libraries & facilities will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, for Independence Day.
Trash & Recycling Collections – Normal
Road Closures – The Arlington County Police Department, Virginia State Police, United States Park Police, and the Virginia Department of Transportation will close multiple roadways on July 4. These closures are designed to facilitate the safe passage of large crowds for the Independence Day events and fireworks. See Traffic Alert: July 4th Road Closures for more detailed information.
Parking – Street parking in the areas of the US Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), Long Bridge Park, and the Air Force Memorial will be restricted. Motorists should be on the lookout for temporary “No Parking” signs. Illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed. Learn more at Traffic Alert: July 4th Road Closures

Ocean Dunes Water Park at Upton Hills Regional Park
The July 4th Celebration at Long Bridge Park has been canceled but you can still visit Long Bridge Park on July 4th to enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere, play games, have a picnic and watch the Washington, DC, fireworks display.

View the National Fireworks from Arlington
Arlington County, with Washington, DC, as its neighbor, is home to some of the best views of the National Fireworks. A full day of festivities culminates with a fireworks display (scheduled to start shortly after 9:09 p.m.), and Arlington has great spots for you to enjoy the show!
Long Bridge Park
Watch the national fireworks at Arlington’s Long Bridge Park, located on the north end of Crystal City. It’s easy to get there by bicycle, with a connection to the Mount Vernon Trail nearby. It is also easily accessible from Metrorail (Crystal City station, Blue Line), and Metrobus.
Please note that, due to budget constraints, the July 4th Celebration at Long Bridge Park will no longer be held. While this annual event will not take place, Long Bridge Park is still a great place to view the fireworks. Enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere where you can play games, have a picnic and watch the fireworks!
Air Force Memorial
The Air Force Memorial (1 Air Force Memorial Dr) is a great viewing location and features a free show! The Concert Band and Singing Sergeants perform at the Memorial at 8 p.m., with a special performance by the USAF Honor Guard Drill Team before the concert, at 7:30 p.m.
The closest Metro stations are Pentagon and Pentagon City. Limited parking available on Southgate Road, or you can park at Pentagon Mall; be sure to be parked no later than 7:30 p.m. Read about parking and shuttle buses. See information below on parking on the Pentagon Reservation. Please note: parking/viewing is no longer available at the former Navy Annex.
Gateway Park in Rosslyn
Take Metro’s Orange line to the Rosslyn Metro station. Gateway Park in Rosslyn is a short walk from the Metro.
Gravelly Point
To reach Gravelly Point, part of the National Park Service’s George Washington Memorial Parkway, head south on the Parkway until you reach Reagan National Airport. At the airport, circle back and head north onto the Parkway towards the 14th Street Bridge. About a quarter of mile before the bridge, turn right into the parking area. No glass bottles, alcohol or fireworks are allowed at the Gravely Point parking lot or anywhere along the Parkway.
US Marine Corps War Memorial
If you plan to watch the fireworks from the US Marine Corps War Memorial in Rosslyn, take Metro’s Orange line to the Rosslyn Metro station. Approximate walking distance from Rosslyn Metro to Iwo Jima is 0.2 mile.
Key Bridge
The Key Bridge crosses the Potomac River between Georgetown and Arlington. Take Metro’s Orange line to the Rosslyn Metro station. Get there early to grab a spot at the bridge. There’s no seating at the bridge, and you can stand on the sidewalks only.
Pentagon Reservation
Everyone visiting the Pentagon Reservation to park or view fireworks is subject to guidelines.
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall’s Whipple Field will open at 5:05 p.m. to DoD ID card holders, their families and guests.

Street parking in the areas of the US Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), Long Bridge Park, and Air Force Memorial will be restricted. Motorists should be on the lookout for temporary “No Parking” signs and illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed. If your vehicle is towed from a public street, please call the Emergency Communications Center at 703-558-2222.
Arlington County residents and visitors are also reminded of the following:
Alcoholic beverages, grills, and fireworks are prohibited on County and Federal parkland during Independence Day events.
Vendors will not be allowed in the area of the US Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima).
Coolers and backpacks will be subject to search upon entry to the US Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) and Long Bridge Park.
Attendees are strongly encouraged to use public or for hire transportation. The Rosslyn Metro stop on the Orange Line is approximately 5 blocks north of the US Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), and the Air Force Memorial is within walking distance of the Pentagon City Metro station.
