Arlington Science Focus School (ASFS) will celebrate its 20th year of innovating education with a ribbon cutting for its science and learning lab, Investigation Station, at 4pm on June 6, 2015. The state-of-the-art lab was funded entirely by parents, businesses and community members through a process that was facilitated by online fundraising and parent engagement platform Edbacker.
Since May 2014, Edbacker has helped the ASFS PTA raise $175,000 in capital campaign funds to design and bring to life a discovery space that will function as a centerpiece of the school, where students in grades K through 5 will be able to explore the natural world with the aid of hands-on learning tools and cutting-edge technology. Edbacker enabled ASFS to expedite the project’s timeline from vision through creation, allowing students to begin taking advantage of their parents’ efforts within the span of only one year. Arlington Public Schools supported the joint public/private efforts to see this project come to fruition.
Edbacker’s founder, Gary Hensley, developed Edbacker as a way to facilitate the connection between schools and their communities. A parent of two children and a former assistant principal, Hensley saw the need for a streamlined, online platform that could empower parents to actively participate in their children’s school experience and allow schools a direct connection with their supporting communities. D.C.-based startup Edbacker catalyses parent involvement by consolidating community engagement efforts and one-click, tax-deductible fundraising opportunities all in one easy-to-navigate place. ASFS’s PTA is one of more than 300 parent organizations across the United States that has partnered with Edbacker’s trusted and efficient platform to engage with parents and raise critical capital for education.
“I am thrilled that Edbacker was able to help ASFS reach their fundraising goals and to see outcome of their hard work,” says Hensley.
