City of Alexandria Invites Community to City Hall Visioning Study Meeting
For Immediate Release: July 8, 2019

The City of Alexandria will host a City Hall Visioning Study community meeting on Wednesday, July 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the City Hall Sister Cities Conference Room 1101 (301 King St.). Learn about the City Hall Visioning Study and potential approaches to the City Hall renovation; take a tour of City Hall and learn about its history; view City Hall initiatives through gallery displays; and ask questions and share ideas for the future of City Hall.

The City is also seeking input through an online questionnaire, available until July 12, to gauge which functions or services are most important to be housed in City Hall. Results from the questionnaire will be discussed at the July 31 meeting. This input will help to define building occupancy and inform how City Hall can best deliver services for the community well into the future.

City Hall is the center of civic activity for Alexandrians, is a source of community pride, and will remain the seat of City government. In addition to the offices of the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager, City Hall houses more than 300 employees in various City departments and agencies. Portions of the building were originally constructed in 1871, and after many decades of service since the last renovation, major updates are needed throughout City Hall to better serve staff, residents and visitors.
