DUE TO WEATHER, THE JULY FIRST THURSDAY WILL BE POSTPONED UNTIL THURSDAY, JULY 13. During the July First Thursday, Del Ray celebrates our country and recognizes our veterans and military families with “First Thursday: Red, White & Blue.” The monthly street festival will take place on July 13 from 6pm to dusk along Mount Vernon Avenue. The event is free and open to all.
First Thursday takes place along Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, and features patriotic activities; discounts for veterans and military families at various restaurants and retailers; plus live music, an old-fashioned cake walk, and more at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (located at the intersection of Mount Vernon Ave. and Oxford Ave.). The event is free and open to all.
Among the planned activities:
Honor Guard and Flag-folding demonstrations with The Old Guard and The Friends of Rocky Versace
Live music by Mars Rodeo at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square
An old-fashioned cake walk at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square and cupcake walk at Bellies & Babies
Card-making for deployed military at Top It Off and Bean Creative
WWII Letters From The Front Lines with Duncan Library at the breezeway between Greener Cleaner and Neighborhood Pharmacy of Del Ray
Patriotic Face Painting at The Purple Goose

Meet organizations serving our military families and Veterans, including Team RWB, National Military Family Association, American Military Partner Association, Military Spouse JD Network, and Next Step Pilates
Participants are encouraged to bring a new Dr. Seuss book for United Through Reading, is a non-profit organization that has served military families for 28 years. United Through Reading offers service members the opportunity to be video-recorded reading storybooks to children at home which eases the stress of separation, maintains positive emotional connections, and cultivates a love of reading and early childhood literacy. Donations will be collected at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square and at Bellies & Babies Consignment Boutique.

Held the first Thursday of the month from April to September along Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, First Thursday is a series of free outdoor street festivals that bring the community together around a fun theme, benefiting a local nonprofit. This month’s event is sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association and The Jen Walker Team.
