FNA began in 1994 as a celebration of the New Year through the performing arts. Coffee shops, retail stores, hotels, museums and public buildings are turned into performance venues to showcase a variety of talent. First Night celebrations take place around the world, having been founded in 1976 by a group of civic-minded artists in Boston as a meaningful alternative to traditional New Year’s Eve revelry. Fireworks on the River!
FINALE AND COUNTDOWN TO FIREWORKS
sponsored by
First Night Alexandria is the BEST place to see fireworks on New Year’s Eve in the DC Region!
Beginning at 10:00 p.m., hear the soft sounds of the ever popular “Stairwells” from the College of William & Mary.
At 10:30 p.m., we’re going to crank up the energy with everyone’s favorite DJ, Ray Casiano. This is his seventh First Night Alexandria appearance and he’s here to help celebrate another great year of First Night in Alexandria. Ray will keep you dancing through the fireworks!
Just before midnight, Alexandria’s Mayor, Allison Silberberg, and friends will count us down to a fabulous fireworks display sponsored by First Night Alexandria and MGM National Harbor on the Potomac River!
Do I have to pay to see the finale?
No – you do not have to pay to see the fireworks, but you must have a First Night Badge to attend any of the other First Night performances. Please help us keep this event alive by making a contribution at Donate or sending a check to First Night Alexandria, 221 King St., Alexandria, VA 22314. First Night Alexandria is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. All contributions are tax deductible.
Will there be fireworks this year?
YES! Fireworks are back on the river! Best viewing is anywhere along the river from Oronoco Bay Park to Waterfront Park. Some of the display will be visible from the steps of the Masonic Memorial but the best viewing will be closer to the river.
