While the deluge of showers delayed the launch of the 2015 Texas Christkindl Market by one day, it did not stop the event from welcoming visitors this Thanksgiving weekend.
Lighted huts with artisan and Christmas wares, as well as food, now line Road to Six Flags Drive, while a snow playground and kiddie rides are stationed on Nolan Ryan Expressway. Live music fills the air and visitors can get a sniff of bratwurst, glühwein or a strudel from the famous Helmut’s.

This marks the first year that the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau is managing the event that runs through December 23. To give families a reason to return, the CVB has added a Kinder Market open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays that features a snow playground, carousel, gingerbread house decorating workshop, marionette show and more.

“We want it to be the favorite holiday tradition,” said Barbara Kovacevich, Director of Special Events for the CVB. “Hang out, shop for unique items and celebrate what the holidays are all about. Come once, come several times, but there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
Twenty-two-year-old Sophia Pickle and her parents from Plano checked out the market for the first time on Saturday. After studying abroad in Europe, Pickle was excited to discover the Texas Christkindl Market.

Also new this year are a Bavarian Haus from Käthe Wohlfahrt with cuckoo clocks, a faux fireplace in the Arlington Heights Warming Hut to make it cozier, festive 12-foot-tall nutcrackers, and a display where visitors can take an “elfie” with a couple of Santa’s helpers.

The market has free admission and parking. Check the market’s website or its social media sites for information about the rescheduled date and time for the opening ceremonies. – See more at: http://www.arlington-tx.gov/news/2015/11/30/texas-christkindl-market-braves-wet-weather-opens-arlington/#sthash.qkveB1eI.dpuf
