ARLINGTON, VA (PRWEB) NOVEMBER 18, 2015
Eastern Foundry, a coworking space and accelerator for technology startups and small businesses, announced its second annual Foundry Cup will be held March 23–25, 2016 in Crystal City. Foundry Cup 2016: Portable Power will provide a medium that brings together groups of innovators and helps them refine and showcase new approaches to managing energy. Eastern Foundry is looking for game-changing approaches to versatile, go-anywhere power sources that will decrease government spending, reduce the carbon footprint and save and improve lives.
Up to 10 finalists will be selected to participate in a three-day program where they will receive professional training, operational support and industry engagement with a community of like-minded practitioners to help them accelerate the development of their solution. The program will culminate in a Demo Day on March 25th, which will allow finalists to pitch their environmentally impactful concept and prototype to an audience of expert judges and the general public.
“We’re really excited to create a platform to bring together those who want to make a mark in the environmental space,” said Andrew Chang, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Eastern Foundry. “We hope to find solutions that are beneficial across all sectors.”
On Demo Day, finalists will be evaluated by a panel of judges and the winning business, service or idea will receive a cash prize of $10,000. One runner up will receive $5,000. Demo Day attendees will get the chance to vote for a “People’s Choice” winner which will receive a $1,000 prize.
Foundry Cup 2016 opened for applications on November 15, 2015. The application period will close on January 15, 2016 and finalists will be announced on February 1, 2016.
The challenge was designed in consultation with experts from the U.S. government and Washington, DC area think tanks who identified portable power as one of our government’s most important needs—and an area where the private sector can make a vital impact. Finalists in the Cup will have unlimited access to support from NSTXL, a company that speeds the process of working with the federal government. Eastern Foundry also aims to connect finalists with Arsenal Venture Partners, whose OnPoint fund is focused on investing in Department of Defense energy solutions.
“We care about our community and wish to see energy solutions that improve the lives of those around us, now and in the future,” said Geoff Orazem, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Eastern Foundry. “Environmental issues are global and we want to do the best we can to make a difference.”
