Michael O’Shea draws from personal military experience to craft new historical narrative

ARLINGTON, Texas (PRWEB) May 05, 2015

Author Michael O’Shea reminds readers to wear flowers in their hair as they travel back in time through the Age of Aquarius in his new historical fiction about 1960s military life, “Blood on the Risers: A Novel of Conflict and Survival in Special Forces during the Vietnam War” (published by AuthorHouse).

O’Shea recreates his most poignant memories of serving as commanding officer of a Green Beret A-team in Vietnam within the pages of “Blood on the Risers.” Readers will find an unadulterated narrative of military life during a time of cultural, social and sexual revolution in the United States, illustrated by the book’s protagonist, Mike.

“This book is about a young patriot yearning to serve his country, only to discover the real world is fraught with contradictions and paradox,” O’Shea says. “He meets a variety of men along the way – some ordinary, most honorable, all caught up in complexities of the most controversial war in American history.”

As Mike struggles to push through the realities of war, he realizes he must confront three enemies: his innocence; the Communists; and his own countrymen. Readers experience the rigors and challenges of military training, dispatch and combat through O’Shea’s characters’ eyes: soldiers soaring through icy skies toward mountainside drop zones; the distinct smell of death as Mike tightly clutches onto the remnants of his tattered soul; the sheer resolve Mike and his fellow men display in their unwavering commitment to their country.

“Blood on the Risers” creates a factual rendering of the innermost workings of a Special Forces A-team that O’Shea believes will provide readers with a renewed appreciation for what servicemen endured to defend their country in Vietnam, despite the danger and consequence of war.
