Interactive “Energize Arlington” sessions will help leaders meet and learn from each other
October 1, 2018 | News Release
The Arlington County Civic Federation and Arlington County are teaming up to offer a free, four-part workshop series called Energize Arlington to help community leaders develop skills and tools for effecting change in their neighborhoods and organizations.
Workshops will take place every Thursday night in October, beginning this Thursday, Oct. 4. Sessions will focus on common challenges facing community advocates, including how to energize neighbors to be active participants in their community and how to reach neighbors living in apartment and condo buildings. The series will end with a networking happy hour at New District Brewing Company on Oct. 25.
“We see Energize Arlington as a way to strengthen and empower grassroots civic and advocacy organizations in our community,” said Arlington Civic Federation Vice President Nicole Merlene. “Learning how to reach and energize our neighbors and local advocates is central to building an engaged and representative community.”

The idea for the Energize Arlington series grew out of meetings earlier this year between County Manager Mark Schwartz and 55 civic and condo association presidents from across the County. The meetings provided a chance for the leaders to share their successes and challenges in engaging with their local communities. The Energize Arlington series is a way now to extend those neighbor-to-neighbor learnings to other civic and condo association leaders and members as well as any other interested community advocacy leaders.
“I want to encourage emerging and current community advocates of all ages, both renters and owners, and of all backgrounds, to join us for these sessions,” said County Manager Mark Schwartz. “This is the kind of community-building that helps keep Arlingtonians plugged into our County and civic life.”
