20th Annual Del Ray Halloween Parade!

One of Del Ray’s favorite traditions is coming soon! The 20th Annual Del Ray Halloween Parade takes place Sunday, October 30, at 2 p.m. Please note that both judging for Best Decorated Stroller and registration for Best Pet Costume will begin at 1:30 p.m.

The parade begins at Mt. Vernon Avenue, south of E. Bellefonte, and continues down to the Mt. Vernon Recreation Center play fields at Mt. Vernon and Commonwealth Avenues. Children, pets, and strollers in costumes are invited to march and show off their finest and scariest Halloween garb. The Parade and all activities are free!

Awards will be given for Best Pet Costume, Best Decorated Business, Best Decorated Home, and Best Decorated Stroller. Judges include elected officials and city dignitaries.

Deadline to nominate your home or a neighbor’s home for Best Decorated Home is Sunday, October 23, at 12 p.m.

Deadline to nominate Best Decorated Business is

Sunday, October 23, at 12 p.m.

To nominate a home or business, email the street addresses by October 23 to delrayhalloweenparade@yahoo.com and state if it should be judged during the day or night.

A brief ceremony will follow the parade where the awards will be presented, along with refreshments (hot dogs donated by 7-Eleven, cider, and cookies) and goodie bags for the children (including, as long as they last, healthy bags that will not have any candy). Popular band Mars Rodeo will provide entertainment. There will be Goblin Games and activities for the children, like Bowling for Bones, Pin the Wart on the Witch, Skeleton Toss, Monster Mash, and Ghost Drop.

After the parade, be sure to have your photo taken on the field over by the tennis courts.

Judging for the Stroller Competition will be done prior to the parade start. Stroller entries must register by 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Mt. Vernon and E. Howell Avenues. Look for the long string of orange balloons and signage. Once registered, strollers will line up on Howell to be judged prior to the parade. There is no fee to register and there are lots of wonderful prizes donated from our local businesses. Stroller Categories are Creative, Humorous, Best Group or Family, Less is More, and Overall.

Pet Costume Registration begins at 1:30 pm on Mt. Vernon south of E. Howell Ave. Look for signs. Categories include Creative, Team, How Could You Do This to Me, and Vola Lawson Best of Show.

There is no registration required for children and families that march in the parade; they should gather at Mt. Vernon Avenue, south of E. Bellefonte.

After the parade from 5–8 p.m. families can enjoy the Spooky Bean Haunted Halloween Circus (free!), constructed by Bean Creative. The Graveyard is located at the grassy lot next to their business at Mt. Vernon and E. Del Ray Avenue. This is definitely a must-do Del Ray tradition. Special thanks to our neighbor, Bean Creative. Donations are happily accepted at the gate to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Special thanks to Jen Walker for her sponsorship!

The parade is sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association (DRBA). Sponsors and financial contributions, goodie bag contributions, and volunteers are always needed. Very special thanks to Jen Walker, our primary sponsor and sponsor of Best Decorated House. Special thanks to our other sponsors Bobi Bomar, sponsor of Best Decorated Stroller and Paul Haire from Your Dog’s Best Friend for his sponsorships of the Best Pet Costume.

Volunteers Needed! If you would like to help stuff 2,000 goodie bags, come on Saturday, October 29, at 2 p.m. to the Mt. Vernon Recreation Center. We also need lots of volunteers on the parade day. If you are able to volunteer on either day, please sign up the following link -http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c054eada722a46-delray1
